The 5 year plan

Meet.  Fall in love.  Get engaged.  Get married.  Start a family.

I always imagined these would be the steps that I'd go though someday with "Prince Charming," but never did I imagine that a) my family really would nickname him Prince Charming, nor b) that the timeline for steps 1-4 would happen in about 10 and a half months.

Since our courtship was so short, we always agreed that neither of us were in any rush to start a family.  Besides wanting more time just to get to know each other and enjoy one another's company, etc., we enjoyed the lifestyle that allowed us to meet in the first place...traveling.

So, we agreed on "the 5 year plan."  We'd wait until we'd been married for about 5 years and then have "the discussion."  It was nice that we decided it early on because it made it easy when the question came up.  Now, I won't lie and say there weren't a few times that I thought, I don't know if I want to wait five whole years, because there were a few of those.  But there were others when we thought, "maybe a seven year plan would be better."

By November of last year we basically took the attitude that if it happened, we'd be fine with it, but waiting another year or two would be good, and our preference.  Rationally thinking, there were several MORE things we wanted to accomplish, before adding a baby into the mix...We could finish the house, cross another travel destination off of our list, save some money, get another certification out of the way, blah, blah, blah.  The list went on and on. Besides, we joked that it didn't have to be THIS five year anniversary.  Afterall, we do have two other "celebrations" we consider to be anniversaries as well. 

So we were clearly surprised in April when we took that test and the word pregnant appeared!  What?!  When?!  How?! (ok so we all know HOW, but still!)

When we went to the Dr. and they confirmed that we were going to have a baby, they did some calculating.  It turns out we're not too bad at planning after all!
